Big improvements this year, a lot of excitement

Pros

Things have really improved since the unfortunate layoffs of last year. Executive leadership has listened, new product releases are excellent, and my peers and I feel excited and motivated. Dataminr’s mission and people are fantastic and I feel very supported.

Cons

Sometimes teams work in silos, but I’m seeing a lot of attention paid to this improvement. Last year I would have said unorganized, but that is really changing too.

The decision to conduct layoffs is never made lightly and while those measures were necessary, we understand their impact on company culture and morale. Poor Prognosis

Pros

Most high-quality, intelligent people I have ever worked with. Truly feels like a team. Great benefits, perks, and work-life balance. I greatly enjoyed my manager and learned a lot of skills while on the job. The product and mission are highly appealing.

Cons

The higher level management seems to be completely out of touch with the product and the work being done at the ground. The recent layoffs, second time this year, were testament to the degree to which they are out of the loop. They are trying more and more to cut corners with cheap labor rather than keeping proven and quality employees. I expect the quality of the product to decline with the recently implemented changes, and so I do not expect the long-term trajectory at this company to be bright. The best years of this company appear to the in the past - I would steer clear for the time-being. Beyond that, the work was not as challenging as it could be and it seems that many in the organization feel the same way, but are not eager to take on new challenges given the above situation. Even when you do try to make an effort, those efforts usually get shut down because resources are limited by low staffing.
