Pros

Many passionate employees across the various timezones and function areas. Reasonable benefits (health insurance, WFH options)

Cons

Huge amount of micromanagement. Working across function areas although is theoretically supported, micromanagement means you must go through layers of bureaucracy instead of just reaching out. Senior management is so incredibly out of touch, with constant poor strategic decisions, layoffs, uncertainty. Risk taking is not encouraged, and if anything we were warned to be conscious of those more senior when suggesting ideas. Career opportunities are so poor here, once you come in at a certain level it will take a few years to get to the next level even if you are immediately demonstrating you are performing at least at that level. Pay increases were close to nothing even when inflation is at its highest in years. Real salary effectively went down over years.

Pros

- Amazing Product with oodles of potential. - In general, great people across the company with opportunities to go beyond just your team. - Good health insurance plans and benefits.

Cons

- Leadership has become a real let down over the years. People understand the business is business but the human factor that made Dataminr a great place to work has vanished. - People across multiple teams who have put so much effort into making the company what it is today have seen their dreams of going public dashed despite all the private statements internally about IPOs, we're in it together, we appreciate your hardworking etc. - The CEO and exec leadership are missing in action. These people are great behind a camera or talking to middle management but you walk past them in the halls and they inspire no charisma. - Leadership has also made a number of cutthroat ruthless decisions that maybe good for business and impact people's lives. Once they got what they needed out of the DE team, they fired half the team and went to AI. Once the product and design team were used and they got what they needed, AI took over their job too. Again all the internal team meetings and "we appreciate your efforts" fall on deaf ears at this point. - I used to tell everyone what a great place Dataminr was to work and honestly it makes me sad to see the direction the CEO and leadership have taken the company.

Pros

Cool technology, great coworkers, meaningful work, can be fully remote.

Cons

There isn't an established career ladder for research engineers which means years of no promotions and a constantly deprecating salary. Office political drama in the office causes teams to fight internally and split off their projects.
