Pros

The work I was performing was satisfying and challenging. Coworkers were friendly.

Cons

The company expects you to work 80 hours per week with NO days off. The holiday schedule they give you means nothing, they make you come in on the days they told you would be days off when they hire you. There are way too many bosses in the plant and not enough worker bees. Management will not give you a quick or straight forward answer because there are so many layers.

Pros

The only pro to working at American Axle & Manufacturing is they pay pretty good for those who have college degrees or in the process of getting a degree.

Cons

You are surrounded by a ton of non-educated individuals. All supervisors either have no education or have a bachelor's degree from the University of Phoenix, which is a joke. Also, everyone micro-manages like crazy and people consistently throw each other under the bus to get a head. Essentially, it seems like no one truly knows how to do their job correctly, constantly taking short cuts. The employee turnover rate while I was there was incredible. Also, people are put into roles that they cannot handle. If you have a HR degree, you'll probably end up in Materials. Senior management doesn't know how to play to employees strengths which makes the Three Rivers plant struggle constantly with meeting demand and doing anything that is efficient or effective.

Pros

When times were good, it was a safe, clean place to work. Overtime was optional and the atmosphere was positive and enjoyable.

Cons

When the economy took a hit, the first things to go were the safety and cleanliness concerns in the plant. Suddenly noone in management cared about dangerous work areas or working conditions. Overtime became mandatory and the atmosphere between management and employees became hostile. A lot of work was also sent overseas, closing most of the plants in the Buffalo, NY.
