Pros

DeVry remained fully operational during the pandemic allowing its employees to work remotely. DeVry continued the remote platform throughout the end of the pandemic and now operates in an on-site/remote capacity. The job itself was well ran and management truly try to meet their employee's needs.

Cons

However, the job can become grueling day in and out answering phone calls and hand holding grown adults through college. This ebb and flow can easily become monotonous and there is a good number of the veteran employees who drop the ball because of this tiring regiment. This creates divide amongst your fellow employees in other departments (admissions/welcome advisors) because you will end up bearing their workload. As a result, this leads to an academic advisor position juggling more than one job: specifically handling student concerns, onboarding/orientation, and financial aid all for one position's salary.

Pros

I love how close I am with all my colleagues, and I love that I get to work from home and the hours are not bad. Benefits are good and the pay is good and I like that I can take classes for basically free.

Cons

It’s all about numbers and goals, I swear even if a student tells me they aren’t interested the response from management is always “well they can always change their mind, keep calling” I am very much a people person but there is something that doesn’t feel right about having to call people 4 times a day and when they do answer and say there busy or at work, we just have to keep talking to them or else we get in trouble and get asked what we could of done to keep them on the phone longer. The way people are promoted seems very weird, I have had colleagues be told if they are successful in there goals they will see a promotion yet nothing ever happens. There isn’t much room for growth and your day is the same every single day. If you are seen off the phone for more then 5 minutes you will receive a message saying you are not doing what your suppose to be doing, it’s not about the students it’s about the number of applicants per advisor.

Pros

There are several genuinely nice employees

Cons

Stressful, poor management, students run credit balance scams and treat advisors like garbage. This is a call center nightmare job.
