Pros

Great benefits, lots of vacation time, non teaching session and health/dental and vision insurance. Good colleagues, management are nice people and genuinely care about you, at least at the local campus level, above that, not so much.

Cons

We are required to teach 47 credits a year (over five sessions)! That is got to be the highest I have ever seen. Constant cut backs, customer service mentality over academic excellence. Compensation is MUCH lower than the local and national averages.

Pros

There are opportunities for advancement if you can bloom where you are planted. For someone with no prior expertise other than a degree this can be an opportunity to establish yourself.

Cons

If you are someone that already has expertise in an area other than student recruiting it can be challenging. Management doesn't get that to get the greatest contribution from your staff, you have to play to their strengths. In staffing, like in an orchestra, you don't expect a gifted strings player to do well in the woodwinds section just because you put them there.
