Pros

The best reason is the customers. The product Dell makes are used all over the world by billions. Being in Product Test group, I contribute directly to the quality of product Dell makes. There is tremendous opportunity and latitude in my job to make an impact and the best satisfection is if I am successful in my job, it affects positively to the quality of the product seen by billions of customers all around the world.

Cons

Being a very large company with continuous thrust on product lines bureaucracy is the biggest hurdle in Dell. Process seems to slow down itself. Also many people say Dell lacks innovation in product, although in Business process Dell's innovative ideas were unprecedented. Most employees are in Dell for more than 10 to 15 years, making the average age of employee over 35. High average employee age triggers a static environment not suitable for innovation. However, my opinion is a lot is changing in Dell, and effect should be seen in a couple of years, and people finally are getting over the transition phase to move forward.

Pros

I can honestly say that Dell is a great place to work. There are lots of opportunities to learn and grow as a person and as a professional. Dell is always looking for individuals that can propose better ways to do things, is always trying to improve. Is part of the Dell culture, they are not afraid of changes, in fact Dell believe in changing. Dell also cares a lot about work life balance and it has the goal to become the greenest technology company on the planet. Dell respects they employees and supports diversity, you can be who you really are in here.

Cons

As I said above, Dell is a great place to work. Unfortunately there is no perfect place. I worked on different departments and the Dell experience depends a lot on your direct manager. There are some great managers and other not so great. this can also happen any other place, but I feel is really hard to do something about it here, because your manager approval is needed when you decided you want to work on a different department or business unit. There is a survey where you can evaluate your manager, but it only happens once a year, so, if the manager receives a bad evaluation, he has a whole year to improve and sometimes they just don't try.

Pros

Dell is the first employer I have stayed with more than a year. I first joined Dell as an entry level sales person to get a good company on my resume. Dell rewards hard work and dedication - with both pay incentives and career opportunities. The personal development I've had from Dell has been amazing. They try to keep the environment at work fun a fun place. The benefits are also amazing, the pay is more than competitive, and the environment is challenging. This is not the place to be if you want to coast and just get a paycheck, but it is the place to be if you want to work hard and get the most out of everything you do. The people that work at Dell have been the most open and compassionate people I have come across in any working environment. Dell (and its people) encourages you to be who you are, not just a corporate clone.

Cons

Dell is very results focused. It's fast paced and ever changing. You can't do one thing well only once, and expect to coast the rest of your career. You have to consistently perform well. Things change on a dime. I have worked for Dell for 5 years (both in Nashville, TN and in Round Rock, Tx) and the longest span of time that I have had the same manager was 12 months. When I was in sales, I consistently worked 60 hour work weeks. Dell is not a job you can leave at work, either. It permeates every part of your life. You find yourself talking about work with friends and family outside of work, and they have no idea what you are talking about. When two Dell people talk about work with others, I've been told it's like we speak a completely different language.
