Pros

Great benefits. Opportunities to work in different areas. Work with highly intelligent, motivated people. Outstanding reputation.

Cons

I was denied a salary review. Compensation is my biggest con. I just want to be paid equal to my peers. Practically impossible to make chargeability targets and take allotted personal time. Company is very demanding. They want you to spend all of your time networking, completing training hours, doing philanthropy, writing industry papers, mentoring, developing new business, ... oh, and you have to bill 40 hrs/week to your client too. Doing great client work is just not enough here.

Pros

Free lunches once a week maybe . Flexible hours. They give you a sweet development enviornment(macbook, thunderbolt, etc)

Cons

Less pay. Extremely poor employee retention. They will fire you even if they dont assign you any work . Favoritism with the managers so new guys will never get to be on a project. Senior management lies to your face. All the managers want to look out for themselves before they even start to care for the engineer. Benefits are horrible (i actually think non-existent though) . Engineers are treated with zero respect. Career growth is non-existent here. You are expected to go and beg the managers for months before you are even assigned some work to do.

Pros

Salaries are very high and consultants make a killing. Everything the firms do is done top-notch - catered dinners (with uniformed waiters); flat-screen jumbo TVs in the lunchrooms (on every floor); travel to awesome places for conferences, with lots of after-hours planned fun.

Cons

The firms will take over your life. Expectation of 7-day work weeks, conference calls on Sunday a norm (and they last for hours), mandatory to check email at least once an evening (and you will get 100+ emails a day) and daily over the weekend and holidays; "Crackberry" syndrome is the minimum. If you are not married with a stay-at-home spouse, or single with zero outside obligations, you will be seen as incapable of making the grade. I know two women who had to discuss the choice to have a baby with their bosses - in one case the woman had to give up the chance to make partner.
