      Nice place for college grads, but not for everyone.

      Pros

      Deloitte is a great place to start your career. There is a reason why most accounting and finance positions in the private sector require a few years experience at a big 4 accounting firm. They offer a great deal of training and development opportunities (although, these have been getting cut in recent months) The relationships you build with your peers and clients will likely last your entire career.

      Cons

      There is an unfortunate need to play politics. Relationships with partners is more important than skills and utilization. They have done a whole lot of over-hiring over the past few years and as a result, we are really feeling it in this current recession.

      Pros

      Most of the people seem to be nice, very corporate and professional. The benefits package seems very competitive. The company seems to care about the people who work there. Great brand, excellent on a resume.

      Cons

      The hours can be very long. Top management may recognize the lack of work-life balance that many experience as a problem. However, they do not seem to know what to do about it. I think Partners who are not at the Executive level, and senior managers, expect Herculean hours and it has been difficult for them to change. Shared Services is free from some of this, this applies most to client-facing positions that are billable.
