Pros

DO was often fast-paced and require employees to take on multiple roles. This led to opportunities for career growth and advancement. DO allowed for a lot of creative freedom, as there were a tone of established marketing strategies in place yet. Early on we had direct impact on the success of the company. There was a tight-knit team environment where everyone worked together towards a common goal. DO offered a competitive compensation packages to attract top talent.

Cons

Long hours: DO is a global company sometimes to get work done we had to long hours, including nights and sometimes weekends, in order to meet tight deadlines. Limited resources: We sometimes did not have all the resources and budgets for marketing, which limited the scope and effectiveness of marketing initiatives. Limited job security: Startups are inherently risky, and there is always the possibility of layoffs which unfortunately happened to many.

No Love Lost - Love is NOT at the Core

Pros

There are no pros at this time.

Cons

I would not recommend working at DigitalOcean. The company has a toxic culture from top to bottom (ELT to ICs), and the leadership team lacks experience to run a profitable company. There is a pervasive blame culture that creates an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty. There's also clear favoritism towards certain employees, which creates an uneven playing field for everyone else. On top of that, the company isn't transparent about its goals or direction, making it difficult for employees to feel like they're working towards something meaningful. For example, leadership was adamant that there would not be layoffs, and two months later they conducted a RIF in the most inhumane way due to poor leadership choices made years prior. Overall, while the compensation and benefits are decent, the culture at DigitalOcean is not healthy or supportive. If you're looking for a company where you can grow and thrive in a positive environment, I would suggest looking elsewhere.

Good people, atrocious C-suite

Pros

People there were great, hardworking, smart and kind. Good compensation and perks.

Cons

Absolutely cannot trust leadership, mainly C-suite as they do as they please, if someone gives a voice against they will be silenced. I was part of layoff in Feb and it was so crushing experience to be just cutoff without even given a chance to say goodbuy to your own team. Just cut suddenly without any warnings. Even if just month before the sentiment given was exact opposite. Promises were made, but in the end not honored. It is sad they made their own values meaningless with 1 swoop. They spent cash buying other companies, are profitable and were in good pace. Layoffs were not a necessary action. However they are buying their own stock back. This was pure greed play, nothing more. Love as a value is just a bad joke. All this is public information as well.
