Pros

1) DO is a great place for interns. It has a very hip and relax environment. With all the marketing DO has spent to promote itself as a people first company and as a serious contender of Amazon, putting “DO” on your resume can be really good. 2) Perks and benefits are GREAT. The salary is very competitive since it’s a NYC company. 3) Great remote culture, especially considering all the perks and competitive salary.

Cons

1) Siloed work culture. It's quite disturbing to see how it stages and fakes the work culture on cam and in front of the media 2) Lack of transparency. The company always says “love” when he wants to avoid a controversial topic and underplay the severity of an issue. 3) So obsessed with numbers. Every employee is just a statistic. The company aggressively hires people to achieve the target but also aggressively loses its good people. Unfortunately, it doesn’t detail the two sides of the story behind the numbers, such as # of hires increases but churn also increases… why such high employee turnover… who knows? Only the positive side gets disclosed. 4) The leadership team keeps building layers of mediocre management team especially the middle management. Good people or the entire team were leaving this company. Some left on their own and some were let-go to accommodate a new hire. Obviously, there’s no growth and promotion in this company.

Thank you for sharing your feedback and I am sorry to hear you're not having the best experience. We are indeed a great place for interns to work and I hope for FT employees as well, and I think for most people that experience is authentic Just to clarify any misperceptions in this review, our retention is incredibly high and voluntary turnover is approaching single digits. As part of our committment to transparency we share those metrics quarterly with the entire company. We also are deeply committed to development at DO and in line with that almost a quarter of employees were either promoted or moved into new senior roles across the organization in 2017. I'm sorry that objective reality doesn't map to your personal experience. If there's anything we can to do better support you please reach out to me or someone on my team directly. We'd love to help where we can.

Pros

After being with the company for a few weeks I feel confident in saying the recruitment and on boarding process here at DO has set the bar high for any future employers of mine. The interviewers were well prepared, accommodating, and respectful. They didn't focus in on the same questions in each interview and it was clear they had a structure to their process. Furthermore once on board they continued to impress me with their orientation, continual training/education of the various teams here at DO, the documentation on how to get setup in each of their systems, the organizational transparency from Ben (CEO), and the "slower than normal" ramp up which allowed me to be more strategic about approaching my new role. Additional pros: great snack selection, an allowance for breakfast/dinner if you're in the office early/late, free lunch, a company that's clearly optimized for the digital age, great people, internal hackathons, commuter benefits, a monthly allowance toward a gym membership, and a "BEACH" with great views of NYC! No, it's not a real beach but rather a place to lounge, take in the views, and enjoy the sun while you work. Overall I hope this review helps others and I'll try to update it after 6 months.

Cons

Glassdoor requires you to include a con but I have nothing to add at this time. I did think of a few more pros to add while attempting to come up with a con so that should tell you what you need to know about DO.

This is wonderful feedback. Thank you. We work really hard on creating a candidate and new hire experience that matches the very high expectations we have for all employees. It's so gratifying to hear how happy you are with your decision to join DO. And with that said, I know there are things we can still do better. We need the candid developmental feedback to drive our continuous improvement as an organization. Please think some more about how we can get better, and please share that with us!

Pros

Great employee focused culture, great benefits - you wont miss any even if you are coming in from a big listed company. Folks are very helpful across all the organizations.

Cons

At times, the open culture and freedom is abused by the employees by criticizing small minor aspects of policies set by the org.

Thanks for the very positive feedback. We are working hard to maintain our culture even as we scale. We like to think we offer great benefits, and you are correct that while empowering our employees also comes the risk of some abuse. But we think the tradeoff is worth it and we will always default to trust. Please continue to let us know how we are balancing our approach and share when there are opportunities for us to do even better.
