Thanks so much for sharing your feedback. We're certainly working hard to develop our values-based culture, and part of that is embracing the diversity and power of a remote-friendly approach to hiring. We're continuously developing our processes to get remote employees up to speed more quickly -- we think our onboarding is pretty good but please share any ideas you have on how we can make it better and more impactful! And in a company growing as quickly as DO I can promise you that team formation and team cohesion will always be an ever-changing process. We'll continue to keep the value of a healthy environment top of mind - please keep us honest on that and continue to share what's working for you and where we can do better!

Truly a People First Organization

Pros

I have never been at a company that has genuinely cared about it's employees more than DigitalOcean. On a benefit level, they consider all aspects of your life from fitness, commuter, healthcare, and social activities. On a career level, there is a large people team helping everyone build their careers, transition between teams, and provide candid and clear feedback to each other. On a personal level, there is an unlimited PTO plan and a general caring of your comfort and happiness. DigitalOcean has done a great job of sustaining the people-first culture while experiencing hyper growth.

Cons

There are shifts of vision and structural changes more often than I would like but that comes hand in hand with a startup culture.

Thank you for the feedback! We absolutely are working hard to create a People First organization that believes in fully supporting our employees to help them be their best. It is true that in a company thats growing and scaling as rapidly as DO is, there are likely to be some iteration of approach, but we hope we're providing the appropriate transparency and support to help you work through the changes effectively.

Pros

Everyone that is hired immediately becomes part of the DigitalOcean family. The office always has great energy. The executive team is approachable and always available for coaching or questions. You are encouraged to continue to learn and participate in areas that interest you. There are several events and activities including yoga, shows and nightly hangouts. Teams go out to lunch or dinner with each other, and the executive team often join. Compensation is very competitive, the company is definitely generous covering all meals, transportation and even gym memberships. The company also believes in "take time off when you need it" vs. the dated 2 weeks industry standard. If you work hard, you are quickly recognized.

Cons

I wouldn't say there are any cons vs challenges. As a growing startup, there are challenges that arise when staff double in size. The company strives to be transparent and available when any issues arise.
