Interesting place, poorly managed

Pros

Nice people for the most part (you've got your usual exceptions), nice art, nice view, nice gym, nice coffee, nice HR people who try to make it a cool place.

Cons

Seems to lack cohesion and I blame leadership. The leaders don't appear to communicate so well and therefore the teams work in silos and have no idea what's going on. It's a strange ecosystem, but I do suppose pieces of an ecosystem don't have to understand what other parts of the ecosystem are doing.. this is only a problem when they are dependent on the other's work or repeating efforts. It's a great place with great people but because it's so poorly organized and led, it's stressful, I waste too much time confused about the what, the who, the where and the why of the place. Decisions don't seem to make sense, and there is no explanation for those nonsensical decisions.

Pros

9/80 Work Schedule On-site fitness center

Cons

Micromanagement is rampant. Work culture can be particularly toxic in certain departments. Company policies (particularly those surrounding telecommuting) are horribly antiquated. Pettiness and politics abound.

Pros

- Respected company within the industry - Reasonable accessibility to executives - Dolby is prioritizing positive work culture and growing changes.

Cons

- 5 years ago, Dolby did not have any employees that were not mid-level. Dolby is learning how to compensate early career employees as they graduate out of entry level - Slow decision making - Old school culture. Not always a con, but sometimes is frustrating when surrounded by fast-moving, progressive companies
