Pros

-Relatively easy since you're signing people up for PBS memberships. Only takes one or two people to sign up to hit your quota for the day (or week if you're good) -Decent pay and commission if you're doing well -You'll meet some awesome co-workers -DDS pays for a weekly staff night that includes free appetizers. It's a fun way to bond with the staff.

Cons

- It's door to door fundraising, you have to be able to face rejection/ridicule on a daily basis and hit quotas to sustain your job with the company. Many people burn out within months of working - Sometimes the location you're fundraising can be hard to sign up members due to the demographics (low income mostly) This can sometimes occur for weeks when turf is running thin -At times Directors and Project Managers can be caught up in their own work too much to the point where they ignore requests from the canvassers or straight up fail to correctly train new hires. Directors also sometimes cut themselves preferential turf, which can create a low morale for the entire office. -Hard to move past field manager in the company

I liked it, a lot.

Pros

I loved working for Christine and Chaney, the directors for the largest period of time I worked there. Tina was the best boss, and was familiar with the best turfs for fundraising, as well as interested in and people succeeding. Chaney was also a lovely person to work with/for. I enjoyed the job and the people I worked with by and large, and made a very good salary ($18/hr. average), and love WGBH so it was fun. I lost weight with all the walking. If you like people, or PBS, NPR, this is a great job.

Cons

Management brought in new people, and changed the lineup. The new person was not as knowledgeable about turf and made decisions that weren't as lucrative to the team. Weather can be tough, but it's also challenging (which can be good). Ice is a hazard, and batteries for headlamps were in short supply. It can take too much time getting back from regions that should be overnight trips instead of single day trips (NH primarily).

Pros

Good compensation and bonus chances, as well as gave me great connections and opportunities for my future job searches.

Cons

Management wasn't the greatest and I found myself confused with where the company was going and differing opinions between management.
