Great work life balance. A lot of paid time off. 6% 401 match with a free 4% for doing nothing.

Cons

Pay is lower than other companies. Must have another job offer to really move up salary wise. You will be pigeon-holed into a low salary if you stay a long time without negotiating with an offer from another company.

Teammates are dedicated, work is meaningful and aligns with my values. Health insurance is good.

Cons

Duke’s parental leave is not good. They offer 6 weeks fully paid leave for both mothers and fathers. Mothers can elect to use short term disability benefits at partial pay for an additional 6 weeks. 12 weeks for parental leave is sadly lagging behind competitive companies in this industry (GE offers 16 weeks, Google 18-24weeks). 12 weeks is simply not long enough to adequately recover from birth and form a strong bond with a new baby. If Duke wants to position itself as an innovator/disruptor in the market, they should be looking to benchmark benefits against innovative companies attracting talent.
