Pros

The Children's Hospital is great. Working with residents is generally pretty good.

Cons

One time a new employee said to me, "No one here ever smiles. It's like everyone is miserable." (referring to the adult hopsital)

Pros

Potential for improved leadership, communication, support, and structure.

Cons

I would not recommend working in Duke’s neurodiagnostic department. I found the management structure to be inconsistent, and communication often felt passive-aggressive or unclear. There appeared to be favoritism at times, which made the work environment feel uneven and discouraging. Workload distribution was another major concern—I often felt overworked and undervalued, and the overall culture sometimes left staff feeling mistreated or unsupported. There also seemed to be a noticeable hierarchy that made it difficult to address issues openly. On top of that, compensation and payroll accuracy were recurring frustrations, which added unnecessary stress to an already demanding role. Overall, the department has potential, but in my experience significant changes in leadership, communication, and staff support would be needed to make it a healthier workplace.
