      Pros

      Duke's mission, vision, and values are honorable and sincerely pursued. Duke believes that all of its employees are problem solvers and gives autonomy and resources to solve problems. Many opportunities, through NDAs, to see state of the art and experimental technology

      Cons

      An organization as large as DHTS, especially formerly segmented, is bound to have a little bit of disfunction. It can be difficult to balance competing priorities and politics.

      Pros

      Excellent educational opportunities for continuing education and advancing one's one practice as a nurse. Excellent place for a nurse to absorb information and grow in their career. Also the Duke name is helpful as a launching pad to go on to become a traveling nurse, go to graduate school, or find other further opportunities.

      Cons

      Requires RNs to rotate day shift and night shift. Parking is terrible. EVERYTHING is policy/procedure driven, which is great for somethings but when misapplied (as it often is by Nurse Managers), it can be an exhausting weight to bear. Ex: if your patient's BS is low and you give juice/D5 to correct it, you MUST recheck the blood sugar at exactly 15 minutes. If you check it at 18 minutes you'll be getting called into the managers office the next day.

      Inability to change; inability to reasonably manage HR issues; lots of highly aggressive and ambitious people; values would be a 5 but words and actions need to match
