Not a good place to be

Pros

Aside from some relationships, that’s about it.

Cons

If you enjoy no work/life balance, getting constantly harassed on your days off via phone calls, text messages and emails, then this is the job for you. The general expectation of management was for you to answer any and all messages, phone calls and correspondence during your free time, regardless if you had approved vacation dates (very rare). This was all for no additional compensation if I may add. I recall documenting phone calls and other correspondence in a notebook for a brief amount of time. I recorded the dates, times, reason for the correspondence, who initiated contact, and the duration the correspondence took. Most of the time it was about trainings or meetings several weeks out and it was next to never for an exigent circumstance. The majority of the time it was a minor problem that could have waited until the employee returned to work on their scheduled shift. I filled up multiple pages in a brief amount of time and got tired of documenting it. I also recall being on vacation in October a couple years back. I got phone calls from my supervisor, and a fellow officer about nonsense. It 100% ruined my vacation. It was the norm there and a culture. The management is also unbearable at times relating to policy/procedure. We had daily uniform inspections and they were expected to be perfect. One morning in the freezing cold, I was working a shift (a shift that I wasn’t scheduled to work but told I had to) and management conducted their inspection. The manager had me lift my pant legs to see what color socks I was wearing. I was also dinged for not ironing my pants (pants that are not intended to be ironed). Finally, I was dinged for salt on my pant leg. Mind you the manager also had salt on his pant leg. My blood boiled that morning, but I decided to let it go. Micromanagement is a huge cultural component which all led to a toxic work environment. To sum this all up, I highly suggest no one puts forth the effort to apply as a Campus Police Officer. I think you are wasting your time and will feel undervalued immediately after starting.
