Micromanaging 101. The upper management has little trust in their teams. The CEO regularly confides in his few upper management employees regarding matters with the "minions".
Start time 8 A.M.? Better not get there at 8:00:01. Ever. Schedules are strict. Down to the second. Do you like to stress even more when you're already commuting in one of the fastest growing cities in the country? EFC can help with that. You just have to call in if the 6 wrecks on I-24 and 5 wrecks on I-65 are going to make you 45 seconds late. Also, it doesn't go unnoticed. While the phone call will be seen, the incident will not be forgotten.
Work/Life balance and unexpected life situations - uh oh! The CEO is incapable of empathy and expects your job to come first above all, unless, you know... cancer. Cancer might be the one thing they will work with you on without indirect repercussion. Every day you have employees that are paranoid that they may lose their job over the slightest thing. Business > quality and loyalty here.
Do you wish to work somewhere you can move up in the company? This isn't the place for that. Upper management consists of employees mostly at 10+ years of employment. There is not room to "move up" in this company only switch teams if deemed a proper move for an employee. All upper management wear many hats (too many), and work many hours outside of the 40/week.
What's happening? Information exchange is lacking. The more friends you make the better informed you'll be. Anytime an employee is hired or let go the news spreads by word of mouth or you'll know when it's announced that a password has been changed, lol. There aren't good practices set in place to keep employees informed.
That brings me to organization. This company is so terribly unorganized. If you decide you want to work here I suggest you have remarkable documentation and organizational skills. Meetings are rarely conducted on time and certain upper management is guaranteed to push meetings. Deadlines. WHAT ARE THOSE?! Need a little more time? No worries, EFC rarely meets a true deadline. Everything here is two steps behind. All the while they expect you to be on top of everything. On top of what? I'm not sure - we'll email back and forth about it several times before we realize we've already discussed and resolved this.
Health. Let's talk health. Do you like to stand up at your desk and work? Well, that's not allowed here. The CEO thinks that people standing in their cubicles is distracting. White noise. There are white noise machines (that sound like rushing water) on constantly. I'd say ~80% of employees have voiced their disapproval of the necessity and helpfulness of the white noise, but to no avail. Not enough natural light. This is a cubicle, white noise, and florescent light farm. Natural light? Not here. Dull dreary colors? Plenty of that.
Employee policies. The policy handbook is made up of "someone did this thing once and we didn't like it so now there's a rule for it". Some things are quite ridiculous, but that's the name of the game at EFC. MICROMANAGING! If they'd spend as much time on planning and scheduling as they did knowing whether someone just took a sh*t they'd make great strides of improvement.
Are you an adult? Well, they won't talk to you like you are. Some particular upper management will throw ALL respect out of the window and consider apologizing for it later... maybe. Do you like being defensive? Cool. Upper management has been known to yell, slam desks, cuss, and be demeaning towards the hard working minions. Because we all know that's the way to motivate, am I right?
Also, there are brown recluse spiders in the back stairwell of the main office. They sometimes pop up other places as well. Careful near the dark corners including under your desk.
