Great for Substitutes

Pros

If you're seeking a part-time substitute position, ESS is pretty reliable. They also consistently let you know when permanent positions are available in your desired district, but you can't switch to a new district in the middle of the school year. They're becoming more organized and easier to get clarity on questions now that they've implemented regional managers.

Cons

Not very transparent, only shares information about your expectations and resources on a 'need to know' basis. HR isn't helpful unless it's regarding signing in or payroll. If you have an issue with an assignment, they will prioritize the district, even if you express conflict with your assignment.

Pros

- paid weekly - easy communication via text/email for schedule changes - occasional gift acknowledgments of appreciation - good benefits (though I didn't use them)

Cons

- I didn't have a choice to work for ESS. The school district rolled us direct hires over to ESS. - Annual training prior to school start is famously unorganized and not very useful. - ESS is an invisible entity that pays you regularly, but your real employers and supervisors are the school staff- so it's an extra step to have to include ESS in conversations with admin regarding scheduling or personal affairs, etc.
