Pros
Flexibility-as a sub, you choose what jobs you take Allowed to work in up to 7 districts Get to work with kids that really need your help and support Off weekends If a school likes you as a substitute, it's very easy to get your foot in the door permanently Easy hiring process: college degree or Teacher's cert + a background check + paying for your sub cert and tb test Knowledge acquisition from working with kids with special needs/learning disorders
Cons
MissionOne will try to coerce you into working over the summer MissionOne is for full time permanent assignments, Source4Teachers is for substitute teaching assignments. Both were always under the same umbrella, and both have recently partnered with ESY. Having different badges and sign in numbers if you transition from full time to subbing or vice versa can get confusing and annoying. Difficult assignments normally not indicated in job posting notes. You can get to a school and find out you're assigned with aggressive or defiant students For those working in permanent positions, whether or not you can return the next school year is not determined until close to the start of the year Benefits package is there but minimal Some issues with getting paid properly
