Pros

Quickest way to get your CPA hours

Cons

"Tone at the top" is different from what actually happens on the field. There is a big disconnect between what they promote and what most people experience. They talk about work/life balance for all but you only get to experience it when you are a manager, if even then. It's such a big organization that it can be complicated to get litle things done because they are quite disorganized. A lot of internal people send you in circles to get little tasks done.

E&Y, Good place to work but not perfect

Pros

Great networking opportunities, great place to start a career. Great opportunities to participate in professional organizations. Co-workers are smart, driven and (mostly) ethical. Good support for encouraging achieving various certifications. Good benefits including maturity leave, Roth 401k, assistances services, and relocation assistance. Good abilities to move around in the firm (geographically and functionally) if you are willing to do other things.

Cons

Promotions are based mostly on tenure. A culture of each person being not an individual, but a replaceable part at lower levels of the organization (up to and including some management positions). Experienced hires are brought in at too low a level and pre-existing skills are not advertised (which can limit opportunities).

Pros

It's a good learning experience for young professionals. It's a give and take, you get the experience, but you will get worked. You will be exposed to really smart individuals and you also get to learn about the business.

Cons

one major downside is being overworked and underpaid, and work/life balance is not great.
