Just Weird

Pros

Chance of working from home. Good cafeteria food.

Cons

Not sure. I was hired on the spot, and stayed for one year as tax staff. The office, pre pandemic, was already empty. No team work, no collaboration. If you have a question, nobody knows the answer, including the managers. That's because the number crunching and core operations are done in India. The NY office is just for client relations and sales pitches to potential clients. For a whole year I had 0 billable hours. Extremely well paid year-long vacation that allowed me to buy a house and pay off my student loans. Other than that, it is a very slow and sleepy environment. I showed up everyday to work, and was asked to go back home since there were no projects to do. It's been like that since the first day at EY. Once I paid off my loans etc, I gave two weeks notice and partner got offended and asked me to leave sooner. Very weird place. The tax dept is empty and slow. Jobs are outsourced and on my last week at the firm, a new office in Calcutta was established to take more tax work. Slight sexism: Female staff is in charge of organizing happy hours and social events for the tax office, while the male staff does the technical accounting/finance work across departments at EY.
