Pros

It was a job. Enough said. There wasn't very many pluses to working there. Everyone is stressed, underpaid, and overworked.

Cons

The CEO uses the company as his own private bank to line his pockets while disregarding his most valuable asset: the employees. He sits in his lofty tower in Meridian with a view of the parking lot and watches everyone that leaves before the end of the work day. He'll then go down to the lobby and apprehend them. He does not believe in time off, demands long hours, and pays next to nothing for it. The buildings, desks, cubicles and decorations are all second-hand so it feels like you're working in a third-world country. The benefits package (healthcare in particular) is a joke and will require you and your family to go bankrupt in order to pay your medical expenses. There is no such thing as a snow day. If three feet of snow falls and the governor calls a state of emergency, he still insists on employees driving in to work rather than recognizing that an employee's health and safety comes before all else. Turn over there is high, and we're not just talking about the floor workers that service units or the installers that go out to jobs for installation. We're talking middle to higher management. Everyone is miserable there, and I'd encourage ANYONE that is either there now or who is looking at them as a potential employer to think twice about it. There ARE better jobs out there in the world. Stay away from Charlie Ergen because you will regret the time you spend at this blackhole of a company.

Pros

EchoStar was a good place to work. Flexible hours, casual dress code, and decent pay. Not great benefits, but they could be worse.

Cons

If you accept a job with EchoStar, make it temporary! Keep looking! After almost a decade of subscriber loss at Dish we knew there was a possibility that there would be layoffs but we assumed they'd give us a decent severance. The laugh was on us. We got 2 months advance notice (minimum required by Georgia law), career transition training, and a kick in the tail to all who had as much as 20 years with a multi-billion dollar company! Shameful.

Pros

If you are looking for a 9 to 5 job and want a good work/life balance. Not much else. Some of the main products are still feature packed and have good work .

Cons

Mismanaged, no vision , too much top down control. Features and timelines get micromanaged by the executives. Engineers and managers opinions are sidetracked. Company is risk averse and not ready to step out of its comfort zone. Used to be a good place to start out for new grads but wouldn't recommend it anymore since the future is not certain, at least for the Technology division. Other parts of the company like ESS and Hughes seem to be doing ok. Their Atlanta division was mismanaged out of existence. Infighting and ego clashes between executives lead to about 140 people getting laid off and one of the major new products being cut off. Product was developed without hiring any experts from the areas which we were entering, and when things went wrong the engineers where blamed. Benefits are bare minimum as is the pay. Vacation is ok, nothing great. With a money minded CEO, who is more interested in cost cutting than looking at employees as an asset , do not see any growth going forward , would recommend to look elsewhere.
