Great place to start a career - don

Pros

If you're straight out of college and need a springboard to starting your career, this is a decent place. It helps put some experience on your resume. Do not stay on more than 1 year. Get that base experience and move on.

Cons

Where to begin. Pay is far below industry. Benefits are terrible. International test standards are non-existent. Engineering - oh my god, where to begin. Smh. Let's just say it's not uncommon for developers to quit as soon as a project is set for release. You will work hard and get zero recognition for a job well done. If you make a mistake, you will be nailed for it (think "annual review"). Your chances for promotion are in direct proportion to how close you are to the decision makers. Pay raises are a complete insult (who doesn't love a 3 cents raise after busting their humor all year long?). The list goes on.

Pros

Decent pay, innovative from a customer base standpoint. Always trying to stay ahead of the game and differentiate itself. Free popcorn, I guess?

Cons

Mandatory 5 days a week 9-10 hours a day. 1 day a week at home would be cool, not asking for much. It's 2026, companies are meeting employees halfway for a better employee experience. At Echostar, you should be thankful they hired you. Bare minimum holidays off. It's New Years week and commuting to work the roads are dead, a clear sign Echostar is behind on the times. Work life balance? The worst I've had at any company I've worked for and you know what? They don't care, the CEO literally said in December "work life balance here is more work." Lumps sick pay into PTO balance(only 3 weeks a year total between PTO/sick pay). Snowed in and can't leave your house? You have to take a PTO day even though you have a work computer in your possession. Worst benefits I've ever seen at a higher price. My last 2 companies I was paying half of what I pay here for 4X the insurance.

It is great to see that our commitment to innovation and our drive to differentiate ourselves in the market resonated with you. We aim to stay ahead of the curve for our customers, and we are glad you recognized the energy we put into remaining a leader in the industry. We also hear your frustrations regarding our current on-site requirements and the structure of our time-off and benefits programs. Achieving the right balance between high-performance expectations and personal well-being is a complex journey, and your feedback regarding work-life balance and remote flexibility provides a clear view of the employee experience from your perspective. We are constantly evaluating our total rewards and workplace policies to remain competitive and supportive of our workforce.
