Pros

Private company. They can make decisions not based on shareholders. They are still hiring in a down market and not laying off employees. They hold true to their core beliefs. They have exceptional training and spend a lot on new employees to give them every opportunity to be successful. We are on the best companies to work for in fortune magazine.

Cons

Working on commission can be mentally draining. There is an "in crowd" in the region that makes all the decisions. Luckily you work for yourself so it's not a big deal if you are not "in it". Very hard to get started...a lot of work.

Pros

They stick with what they believe and they attact financial advisors that believe in their outlook. If you get in an office with a successful financial advisor it is a good place to be. The financial advisors are given the freedom to make their own business and succeed -- the office administrators can be rewarded if they get placed in one of the successful offices. There are so many tools to succeed and learn given you cannot use them all. In the current environment the Edward Jones philosophy works and makes one proud to be there.

Cons

If the financial advisor is not successful there is no place for the office administrator to go, and the incentives to stay are just not there, especially in compensation, for the administrator. The salary is well below the average for the position and the responsibilities are great. Working in a 2 person office there is only such much for the #2 person on the 2 person team can do.

Pros

Edward Jones is a great company with excellent reputation. They have the best training program in the industry, in my opinion. The employee benefits are great, and you have the chance to become the partner. I think the company takes very good care of their employees.

Cons

The support you can get from the field trainer is depends, I means, it all depends on the field trainer. Unfortunately, my field trainer is not so helpful, and I didn't learn too much from her, or got the help and support I need. After the company training, I felt I'm totally alone.
