Good company, some teams are NOT good

Pros

Beautiful new campus, great onsite cafeteria with subsidized prices, company is performing well and stock reflects this. Some teams are great and some people are very happy and have worked here for years. Great benefits and compensation.

Cons

Culture in some departments is TOXIC. Manufacturing onsite (which changes the culture of the rest of the company), heavy focus on manufacturing practices in other business areas that do not lend themselves to that (creative roles). Too heavy with metrics that measure the wrong things, culture that easily blames and tries to find scapegoats. Unfortunately for me, the team I am in has high attrition, we have to deal with many people who are in manager/supervisor roles that are aggressive, rude, bullies and plain unhelpful. They will not help, and simply tell you to "read the procedure", and when you make a mistake, since there is very little coaching or help, they will mark it against you on their metrics, and blame you for your failures, instead of collaborating and providing coaching to let you succeed. There is also a rat problem in some buildings and there are rat traps everywhere. The rat problem persists even with a policy that no plants or food should be kept on people's desks. The company is also very hierarchical, and for people who come from other industries such as tech, this is just the wrong type of environment. Due to this hierarchy, some people have access to "Reserved parking" even though there is a major parking issue on site where at least around 100 cars are double parked every day with a "valet" service. This is just plain wrong, since many reserved spots remain unused day after day. There are also long hours for some people, I usually work around 10-11 hours every day and then at home a few times per week, I need to spend 1-2 hours catching up with email or other work and sometimes I have to prepare reports on weekends. Company is also VERY old-fashioned, there is no telecommuting allowed, people use skype conferencing (but add a phone conference line to talk on the phone instead of using VOIP through Skype. Yes, it does not make sense). Dress code is very formal and makes you feel you are back in the 80's/90s.

Pros

Awesome people! They really have a knack for hiring great people!

Cons

Misguided and mishandling of reintegration to onsite work during the worst pandemic of our time! It is lost on many employees that leadership doesn’t seem to get this! Executives are safely tucked away in their private offices which provide a far greater measure of safety than employees sitting in cubicles. These execs have access to better health care than the rank and file do. They have the big money to get the best treatment possible should they fall ill. Employees who have proven they can effectively work remotely are now expected to return to campus where they will sit in a cubicle all day where no collaboration can take place and expose themselves to the virus unnecessarily. CEO feels we need to be on campus to collaborate in-person but this is exactly the type of behavior health experts say we should be avoiding. Edwards employs some of the smartest people in the country, yet seems to think we’re not very bright. They force policies they tell us will keep us safe but they have no way of knowing this. The evidence continues to mount regarding keeping safe through social distancing so please let us distance and work from our homes.

We appreciate your feedback. We want all our employees to know, that while we have made efforts to reintegrate employees onto campus at a capacity of 50% or fewer (to allow for physical distancing), we also continue to monitor the current COVID-19 environment and consult with trusted medical advisors, local clinicians, and authorities to update our learnings and guide our reintegration decisions. Ultimately, we want to ensure we are taking the right steps to keep our employees safe. As just a few examples, we have implemented enhanced cleaning processes, require non-contact temperature screenings for anyone coming onto campus, and require employees to practice proper hand hygiene and physical distancing. Currently, face coverings are required with the exceptions of closed offices when employees are alone, or in certain limited, designated outdoor spaces that allow for distanced meetings or dining. While we remain confident in our on-site evidence-based safety measures, as we learn more information, we will adapt our campus accordingly. In addition, we recently adapted our reintegration process further to allow for more flexibility. We encourage you to share your specific needs and challenges with your manager, so you may both discuss the best approach for your personal situation.

Pros

- Good company culture - Acceptable pay - Diversity - On site amenities

Cons

I haven't been at the company long, but I will share my thoughts and update the review as necessary. I believe these points are important for new employees to consider before joining. Your overall experience will be dependent on your department, business unit and superiors. Firstly, I have never worked at a company (I have worked at a variety: large, small, start-up, established, contract, etc.) that is this disorganized. The on-boarding process was a complete nightmare and frankly, the company should be embarrassed considering its size and reputation. I am in a high tech position, and getting access to computer equipment and software takes months. It is so bad that it has impacted important deadlines. Moreover, the company culture leans against work from home (WFH), which makes the working situation extremely inconvenient. The expectation is to work long hours to meet deadlines, including weekends yet, Edwards doesn't allow adequate equipment to work from home. They have restricted the number of monitors and other tools to keep people from working from home. I ended up buying my own dock and dual monitors for home to ensure I can get work completed before sudden or unexpected deadlines. On top of that, they don't even have enough seats or equipment in office for employees to work. How do you expect all ~5k employees return to the office (During a pandemic) when you don't even have enough seats for them? It is completely illogical. I was hired as 100% remote, and suddenly, superiors are asking employees to be prepared to return to the office. Edwards will lose talent because it will fail to be competitive in the market. It's 2021 and employees need flexibility. I expect the employer that hired me to trust that I will get the job done.
