Pros

People were nice & working hours were flexible

Cons

Poor management. I had interviewed for a position within the Microbiology department but when I started they placed me in the chemistry department - nothing was said to me regarding the department until after I started. I felt I couldn't say anything as this was a temporary role but thought I'd get the experience & get a transfer later down the line. It took them over a week to sort out a computer for me - while i had heard other new starts were given one within 24 hours of starting. Began reading protocols for the role & found out there were 2 new starts starting 2 weeks after i had started so they wanted to get our practical training done together. One of these new starts had previously worked for the company so was fast tracked through the training while myself & the other new start had to fend for ourselves - anything we chased up about getting training, management kept putting it off. We were finally scheduled in for practical training - this was in the 5th week i was there. By chance that week I was offered a permanent role at a different company (had interviewed at the other company prior to the Elanco interview but there was a recruitment freeze but they finally got that sorted & made me the offer) I handed in my notice to Elanco & they tried every effort to make me stay, also to the extent of saying they can place me in Microbiology- the role i actually interviewed for. I felt it was right to move to a job I wanted & was a permanent role & also after seeing how management were very relaxed about training, I wanted to move on. I wasn't doing any practical testing on the batches that came in, only reading protocols, booking in samples & general housekeeping -I had over 8 years experience of QC testing & felt I could do more than clean the lab! Any other job I have had I was testing within the week.

Pros

- flex schedules for better work/life balance - lots of social activities to participate in - comfortable open work spaces

Cons

- overly bureaucratic - no long term vision, only short term goals - "cost cutting" and layoffs constantly but refuse to give up wasteful spending - unwilling to evolve in changing times - very poor management with virtually no decisions making capacity (all talk but no action)

Pros

Growing company (through acquisition rather than organic growth) in a growing industry, animal health, so possibly opportunities for development. Diverse job opportunities: sales and marketing, manufacturing, R&D - something for everybody. Great projects and products.

Cons

Hasn't handled recent large acquisitions well, with seriously negative effects on culture, morale, retention. Despite recent global acquisitions, they remain very US-centric - foreign markets don't get adequate materials or budget to deliver customer needs. They don't "walk the talk" with regards to their corporate values - they say one thing but don't put it into practice. Rolling acquisitions have resulted in rolling retrenchments - poor employment security since 2014. The outlook is for more uncertainty. They handle the retrenchment process poorly. Communication and transparency is appalling. Be warned: you're likely to discover your imminent retrenchment in the industry press rather than from your manager. Very high expectations - the last few years of my job were high stress and long hours for little acknowledgement and inadequate salary.
