Pros

Most faculty are in a 9 months contract, summers off unless you are given the opportunity to teach in the summer, which rarely happens in many programs. Good benefits, 401K.

Cons

Large teaching load of minimum 3-4 classes with little research to work on unless you work 50+ per week. Working on research will set you apart from everyone else. Not much teamwork between colleagues. Many faculty are just cruising along after long careers in the military or FAA, and barely involving students in academic or research activities, yet cashing additional $$. Simple things like having lunch with a coworker is almost impossible.

Pros

Culture is supportive and the salaries good. Students are very smart and it is a pleasure to work with them. No micromanagement

Cons

The only thing I am sorry about is that there isn’t a possibility to become a full-time in my discipline
