Pros

Tuition assistance, good pay for the area, summer hours, paid time off between Christmas and New Years for full-time, exempt, good benefits package. Time off accrues pretty quickly. Generally talented people tend to gravitate here.

Cons

Some departments are better than others. Cut from a corporate cloth. Numbers/productivity focused. Some departments allow for growth but most have no room for advancement so the really good people tend to leave within a couple of years. The longer you are there the more you are encouraged to take on more responsibility, projects and tasks without a title upgrade or extra money. Won’t allow casual Friday’s or wearing of jeans except for part of fundraising campaigns periodically. If you had a previously awful employment experience this place will seem like paradise. If you have ever had relative freedom you may feel like you are being suffocated. Ultimately the manager you are under will determine how much you enjoy your position.

Pros

Benefits are great, and the community of staff members is really like a family. In my opinion, the negative comments are mostly from employees who are not applying themselves. If you do a good job, you are rewarded. And there is a reduced work week in the summer. I love it!

Cons

There is a lot of organizational change, and all of the difficulties that go along with that, but that's the case anywhere. Sometimes things are run more like a business than a University.
