My boss is wonderful. Working here has opened up many jobs for my future.

Cons

Not always taken seriously as I am only a student, despite being qualified.

Unscrupulous behavior is rewarded with promotions

Pros

The fact that I am not physically there right now.

Cons

I am a faculty member. I've had the rug pulled out from under me so many times in terms of research projects, department chairs, workload expectations, etc. that I can hardly make any professional progress. The sector I work for only cares about student enrollments and don't care who is admitted, as long as it is a relatively warm human body with enough brain stem function to sustain life. As a result, I have minimal time for scholarly activity as I am babysitting students who don't even want to be there for the right reasons and dealing with academic integrity issues galore. Further, hardworking and dedicated students can't get the attention they deserve. I have seen plenty of corruption among my colleagues, and these faculty members are promoted to leadership positions rather than dumped like they should be. I do believe there are good departments at ERAU, but ours (in fact, most of our college as a whole) is greedy, deceptive, and dishonest. This institution likes to tout their status as a "great place to work" for employees with families. I strongly disagree. I have had so little time to attend to my family and this stress level is not even close to worth it, so I will be departing shortly. Also, if your research is even remotely complex, you won't be recognized for it - they only want to see you churn out a slew of publications at the expense of quality. One more thing - be careful if you have a professional opinion that differs from management or you'll get whacked. Have a second job option lined up at all times.
