Pros

Originally, compensation was competitive, and conditions reasonable. There was commitment to professional development and work/life balances. Employees and their views seemed to be valued.

Cons

Conditions deteriorated as Emory embraced cost containment and marketing strategies that negatively impacted employees. Professional development is not as well supported as formerly.

Pros

Good benefits (although they got rid of the 80% tuition reimbursement). Flexible hours. Many units have weekend staff so you don't have to work the weekends unless the weekend staff want a planned vacation. Most of the patient charting is done on the computer.

Cons

If you have a manager/director who likes to play favorites, leave the unit immediately. There are many other nursing units to work at within Emory so keep looking! Proposal for a change in a process or work flow is only accepted/ tolerated/ tried if it comes from someone in management. If a proposal comes from a floor nurse, it gets ignored. Never go to HR or your manager's boss about an issue you've with your manager/nursing director. They will ALWAYS say that YOU are the problem even if you have 20 other nurses saying they have the same issues with the manager/director.

Pros

Secure employement. You have to basically commit a crime to be let go.

Cons

The company does not promote from within because HR would then have to fill your job, and that is double the work for a department that is constantly short-staffed and underpaid. Salaries are below average.
