Pros

The University itself has good resources.

Cons

Paying to park at work, underpaid work in science labs, difficult to use time off, the senior researcher in charge of your lab basically owns you and is allowed significant leeway to set their own rules. I was constantly pressured to work off the clock and on holidays. However, I got the feeling that the experience is very dependent upon who you work for and not universal across all research labs. Also, in spite of regular University-wide emphasis on safety, enforcement of this in the office is very lax.

Pros

Great and stimulating environment. Ability to learn new things and the opportunity to be at the frontier of research works.

Cons

Not a good place for scientific promotion of potential junior faculty. Traffic is horrible and it can be congested at times.
