Great Research University

Pros

Cutting edge research in most fields, large and diverse graduate student body, great transportation system on and off-campus, good pay and benefits. The university has been enjoying a period of expansion in the past few years.

Cons

The departments tend to be insulated from one another, while the faculty mostly focuses on their own research, leaving teaching duties to their TAs. (To be fair, this applies to most R1 universities.)

Research at Emory

Pros

Emory IT connection is great. You can use one user name to access all core facilities and IT services. Personnel at research core facilities are generally amazing, very knowledgeable and informative. Research resources are great.

Cons

Bureaucratic paper work has been increasing and decreased efficiency of research work. Human resource at department of hematology and medical oncology is utterly unhelpful.
