Pros
The C-suite is very talented and full of genuinely nice people. Many departments have teams that are very happy (e.g. Product, Engineering, Marketing). When I started many years ago it was a true unicorn with incredible growth, profitability, culture, and management; truly an incredible place to work! After being sold from one private equity company to another, and then a choppy merger a couple years ago, its a sad shell of what it used to be.
Cons
The Finance team: The leadership runs the department like a military boot camp with investment banker hours. The military and banker cultures often have an excess of toxic masculinity, which is how we earned the nickname “finance bros” from other departments. (I believe the last six analysts hired were men, plus the current manager makes seven.) I was set up for failure. My day-to-day consisted of working 60+ hours per week for over 6-months. I was told it would be temporary for the budget season, and then later told it was going to be the “new normal”. After this 6-month period, I was put on a surprise Performance Plan where my job was regularly threatened. I’ve never been pushed out of a company before, but rather always praised and promoted for my great work. I won AffiniPay’s Award of Excellence program for outstanding work and achievement, but this was all before the current mgmt team came over in the merger. AffiniPay is a very different company now; one that has lost its magic.
