Pros

Decent pay if you do NOT want any kind of personal life.

Cons

The only benefit is health insurance. No vacation for 2 full years. No short/long term disability. No meaningful life insurance. No flex plan. No 401K match. On call 24/7 with two hours notice to report to work regardless of how long you have been awake. Routinely required to drive after being awake for more than 24 hours. No notice to inform drivers if they are working days or nights, just two hours to report. Drivers can not plan any personal/family activities without worrying about the phone ringing. Full-time does not mean you will work regularly, it's just whenever they decide to let you work. Company operates as if it is still 1963. Trucks are not equipped with engine brakes. This is a safety issue particularly in area with mountains. Dock facilities are antique at best, dark unlit work area with no doors on many dock doors to prevent rain/snow from coming into the dock area.

Pros

Low stress environment. No cost Healthcare benefits. An amazing Defined Benifit Pension. Terrific Company to work for.

Cons

Working on a cold dock in the Winter with do doors. Some workers that don’t appreciate the benifits of working under a Teamster contract.

Pros

Pay is best in the business. $100,000+ first year as a road driver. Year two I made $107,000… and took two months off for cancer surgery. Year three I made $129,000. I average 2-3 nights per week in a hotel. Usually only 1 night out then back home the next day. Frequently running turns (home at end of the run). Insurance is free and EXCELLENT coverage. I paid $1,000 total out-of-pocket for cancer surgery.

Cons

Not much life/work balance. Frustrating spending time on the extra board waiting to get a call to go to work, but with more seniority you get less wait time.
