Pros

- Amazing technical experts in the company to draw from - Unique projects - Opportunities to travel - An amazing opportunity for maturing engineers - have most of the engineering “toys” - Good talent pool

Cons

- Benefits have decrease precipitously the last 3 years. This year the health plans were noticeably sub-par, higher deductibles, less coverage, more expensive, and HSA matching was completely eliminated. - Undeserved layoffs and cuts. Design and Consulting had $2.5 M cuts although the year prior they brought in the most profit. Decisions on in the Construction division lost money and the company made Design and Consulting take the cuts. - Lack of development. Training is an overhead expense and will only invest if it is paid for by a project or there is immediate need for it (usually recognize too late). Career development is cut throat and you need to have a supporting supervisor to go to bat for you. - Slow Network Infrastructure investment at the local office level. Only until it starts to seriously hit the margins do they invest in upgrading and that may take years. - Negotiate a high starting salary because you will only get 2-2.5% increases from then. Higher performance and “promotions” may have a little more increase every few years. Exception the the above statement is if you become a “seller”, then you are entitled to bonuses and other perks.
