Pros

Interacting with the students was a huge draw and made the day much more bearable. In time, you will create strong bonds with many of your co-workers.

Cons

There is little to no room for growth or pay increases (tutors are except from this aspect). They under pay, under appreciate and outright mistreat many of their "support" staff. Tutors walk on water, but anyone else is held to an unachievable high standard. If you ever go above and beyond, work extremely hard to meet a specific deadline, or work yourself into a frenzy to get something done, it will be your new standard base line performance and anything else is subpar. Management does not take the time to think through what they say or what they do it. In once instance, management ordered all offices to take down an LGBTQ+ rainbow AJ logo from each and every office. They did not take the time to think through how this would effect no only their employees, but also students, parents and community members who may have seen this as a sign that they were accepted in this space. After an uproar, they offered a lackluster apology about how they had not through it through enough (this was after many employees told them that they no longer felt safe at their place of employment). In the wake of COVID, numerous "support" staff were furloughed and eventually laid off. However, no one in the company was officially notified of this change. To this day, they have not told the Office Directors that their own Office Managers and an HR employee were let go. For your own mental health, avoid this place.

AJ Tutoring Response

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. I’m sorry that you didn’t feel like your experience with us was a good one. We want all of our employees, regardless of title, to feel valued and appreciated. We will take your feedback to heart in how we interact with and manage our support staff. To respond to your other points - we support and welcome all of our employees and students, without reservation. Based on employee feedback and with their collaboration, we created a new AJ Tutoring-specific LGBTQIA+ flag design that can be displayed in our offices longer-term, and has been for almost a year now. Unfortunately, like many businesses this year, we’ve experienced a downturn from Covid-19. When we had to close all of our offices in March, we furloughed some of our administrative team. Seven months later, we still have not been able to reopen our physical office locations. The majority of our office managers’ job description involves managing day-to-day operations for our offices, and so we made the difficult decision to lay off some of the members of our admin team, a decision we had hoped to be able to avoid until recently. We did not make this decision lightly, and we’re sorry for the impact it had on everyone affected. We’re looking forward to the time when we’ll be able to reopen offices and return to full capacity. Thank you again for your thoughts, and best of luck to you in your future endeavors.
