Pros

Great stepping stone. AMR Seattle is a great place to cut your teeth as an EMT. The high call volume and wide variety of patients ensures that an EMT has ample opportunity to sharpen their skills. AMR Seattle are the highest paid EMTs in the country.

Cons

The quality of the company varies wildly between different operational centers. I have heard about great ops, but Seattle Ops was not run well. Look at how many GMs have come through Seattle Ops in the past 5 years. Constant rotation of upper management leads to middle management keeping their heads down to protect their jobs. Middle management will not make improvements in the operations for fear of sticking their neck out. Turn-over is high due to the nature of the job, and the management likes it that way. they prefer to hold employees no longer than 5 years due to the rising cost of that employee. High turn over also means that Seattle Ops has a very weak union that is not capable of protecting its members.

Pros

Career growth opportunities, supportive coworkers, opportunities to learn and develop, ability to advance if you stay engaged and work hard

Cons

Healthcare/EMS can be demanding, long hours at times, stressful days, and workload can be heavy depending on staffing and operations. These things aren’t specific to AMR, that’s our industry in general.

Pros

AMR San Mateo is making huge strides in changing the Old Boy culture of EMS. The operation is collaborative, cares for its employees, and acts with accountability.

Cons

Although it's much better than it was, AMR San Mateo still deals with staffing issues, primarily for medics, and forced mandation is still in play.
