Pros
- Super easy place to work, hence under-performers can camp out until retirement. - In general, people are nice as long as you steer clear of the office politics. - Footwear quality is unsurpassed in the market. Too bad no one knows how to market it properly. - There isn't a lot to do at HQ so you will have plenty of time to explore other hobbies and maybe get 1 or 2 trips to Boston out of it. - If you are friends with senior leadership, you can literally sit at your desk and do nothing. If you're a manager and need friends, you can just hire them. - Hirota-san seems to know what he's doing. I really hope he can get things on the right track before it's too late.
Cons
For HQ; not sure how regional offices manage their turnover. - No raises - Annual bonuses cancelled for fiscal 2018 - HR is abysmally bad. If you fill out your end-of-year employee review, the HR managers can't even tell you when you will receive your feedback or when promotion decisions will be made. - If you're a woman, don't even bother. I can't think of a single woman besides the board member who made it higher than manager. - Leadership is constantly changing branding and strategy. I can't wait to see what they come up with next. - Expect at least one marketing org restructure per year. - Bad/under-performing managers are not fired. They are simply rotated from team to team. - It is very unlikely you will do the job you were hired for. This may be standard in Japan but it is somewhat unexpected for foreign employees.
