They want you SUBMISSIVE, and they want you CHEAP! - Merchandising Representative ActionLink Employee Review

Pros

The part-time merchandising positions, like any other third-party/outsourced merchandising job, is decent 'side work' for extra income. But it certainly should not be relied on for a primary source of income due to the inconsistency of weekly hours.

Cons

Obtaining full time employment with the company is challenging, to say the least. Colleagues, friends, and including myself, have found it nearly impossible to re-enter the company either as a part time or full time employee, yet our performance/record was exemplary. The problem? Actionlink's online application process is lengthy, and one of the questions asks what your 'desired pay' would be. You cannot put 'negotiable'. They want an exact numerical amount so they can determine if you fit into their narrow pay range. Hence, they want you CHEAP. After the lengthy online application, the follow-up email you typically get is a link to another website that has you taking a 20 to 30 minute 'pre-employment' (read: psychological) test. This test, for lack of a better theory, apparently determines how much you're willing to grab your ankles for the sub-par pay rates Actionlink is willing to give you. Excellent field representatives with extensive experience have gone through the online application process, in some cases after being contacted by an Actionlink recruiter directly, only to be snubbed after completing that aforementioned pre-employment/psychological test. Hence, they want you SUBMISSIVE. As with any company, there are few exceptions to any general overview. But suffice to say, among all the third-party marketing/merchandising services firms out there, Actionlink would be the least desirable company to work for. Compared to all of the others, that's a pretty sad designation to hold.
