Pros

I guess you get a decent truck that you have to pay for out of your own pocket.

Cons

Utterly dysfunctional management and a predatory business model. The compensation plan is a complete joke—newly implemented, intentionally confusing, and engineered to funnel money to upper leadership before you ever see a dime. You’re expected to grind for $600 a week while executives protect their cut. You’ll be sent out knocking on doors until 7:30 at night in rain, snow, and single-digit temperatures with zero regard for safety or basic human decency. I had a reputable contract ask me what I'm doing at 6:30 at night and how can I do an inspection in the dark with just one flashlight. Your schedule is constantly sabotaged by mandatory office days and last-minute meetings dropped the night before, ensuring you can’t start early or finish at a reasonable hour. This is by design—keeping you out until 7:00 p.m. But leave at 5:30 when it’s dark? Management will chew you out like you committed a crime. The actual job is nonstop door-to-door harassment. You’re pushed to pressure homeowners into signing contracts they don’t fully understand and to manufacture “damage” on roofs that are only a few years old. There are no appointments, no leads, no structure—just knocking on a hundred doors a day and hoping someone folds under pressure. The company is clearly cash-starved, which explains why they don’t pay commission per job and instead rely on exploiting new hires. All the glowing reviews are blatant propaganda—coached talking points fed to employees to drown out the truth. What you really learn here is how to lie, manipulate, and burn bridges for management’s benefit. Most people quit within weeks once they realize what’s

While we take all feedback seriously, it is clear from this review that our high-performance culture was not the right fit for this individual. We have been recognized by the Chicago Tribune and USA Today as a Top Workplace because we prioritize excellence, and our compensation system is intentionally designed to reward our top earners handsomely while moving away from retaining low performance. Regarding the comments on our sales process, the idea of "pressuring" homeowners into contracts is completely illogical. Our contracts include a cancellation period, meaning that any forced signature would simply result in a cancelled project after we have already invested time and resources. It is a poor business move and a waste of everyone's time, which is why we focus on ethical, value-based sales. Our training in no way whatsoever encourages that behavior as it is counterproductive. To any prospective employees reading this: Success in sales requires being available when the customers are. This is not unique to Advocate; it is the case for virtually all sales roles. If you aren’t available when your customer needs you, they are likely to go with someone who is. Many of our highest-performing reps are available to meet with customers when they are at home, which includes evenings and weekends. If you aren't willing to be available when the customer is, you likely won't see the industry-leading earning potential that our top professionals enjoy. Our compensation plan is designed for professionals who want to understand the business. It requires sales reps to grasp basic components like how to determine a fair selling price, how to ensure a project is profitable, and how to track key performance indicators. Merging these fundamental business concepts together into a comp plan can be a bit more complex than some people are used to. It also allows those who master the system to maximize their earnings and unlock success. We are proud of our nationally recognized benefits, including our Company Truck Program, and we will continue to focus our energy on motivated individuals who want to build a long-term career in an award-winning culture that rewards results and transparency.

Thank you for sharing your experience and highlighting one of the best aspects of a sales career at Advocate Construction. The ability to work outdoors while directly assisting homeowners in our own communities is a major draw for our team. For individuals who enjoy working with the public but are exhausted by the demanding hours and capped earning potential often found in retail, hospitality, or traditional customer service roles, this position offers a refreshing and dynamic alternative where your dedication directly translates to high rewards. We also appreciate your positive feedback on our recently simplified compensation structure. Our current structure of a reliable base salary paired with a robust system of bonuses was designed to reward those who put in the effort and drive results. We strive to support our team members by equipping them with tech-savvy tools, our company truck program, and a supportive culture that values continuous improvement and accountability. We're grateful for your hard work in the Milwaukee market and look forward to celebrating many more of your successes in the field.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review and for recognizing the strong earning potential available to our sales representatives. In addition to a competitive base salary, PTO and a comprehensive benefits and insurance program, we have built a monthly incentive program designed to generously reward team members for generating leads and bringing on new customers. This allows us to foster an achievement-based environment where earning potential is driven by results in the field and individual contribution. To further support our sales and field operations teams, we offer a company truck program and also equip our teams with modern technology to streamline workflows, improve efficiency, and support success in the field and office. We appreciate your constructive advice regarding communication. We rely heavily on honest perspectives from our team to help us refine our operations, as standing still simply does not align with our culture. Instead, we actively seek out ways to elevate our standards and adapt. We look forward to your continued growth with us.
