Pros
- Lots of opportunity for career growth. Agency's preference is to promote from within. - Supervisors are very understanding about requests for time to address personal life needs (child care, doctor appointments, car/home repairs, need for vacation) - Smart phones and laptops are issued to employees who need to be mobile. - CEO is one of the kindest people who will ever meet in your life. The other reviewers who said she has no clue what she is doing clearly do not know her well. She is incredibly intelligent and very good at her job. She is highly respected across the state by both other providers and government officials. She is very dedicated to both the employees and the people who are supported by Advocates. - There is a wonderful focus on both helping people with mental health issues recover and helping people with developmental issues lead a life of their choosing. - The Mental Health division has a robust and talented Peer Specialist Team that is leading the way in the state. - The Deaf Services team runs the only Deaf Respite program in the United States. - Advocates sets pay rates and mileage reimbursement rates by comparing rates from comparable companies across the state to make sure we are always above average. - Any time there is extra money (remember, Advocates is not-for-profit), the Board always votes to give money back to the staff in some way (contributing to 401K plans, bonuses, etc.). - Upper management forgoes raises and bonuses so direct care staff get them.
Cons
- Some employees think they should be promoted just for showing up (Spoiler Alert: They don't get promoted.) - Health insurance coverage could be better, but in fairness I think that may be a national issue and not one specific to Advocates - Some employees are overly annoyed by the lower pay. Its Human Services. . .what do they expect?? Either you want to help people or you don't.
