Pros

The building and campus are beautiful. The overall work environment is fine relative to other companies. There are many of opportunities to learn and expand one's knowledge along with plenty of opportunity to experiment with new job challenges and 'stretch' one's role. Since Aetna is such a large company, there are always opportunities to change job role and function without having to leave the company.

Cons

The Hartford office location is terrible - the air is polluted and the campus is located on the edge of an urban blight zone; cars occassionally get stolen or damaged in the parking lots and one must walk from the parking lot through the ghetto (past the occassional bag-person and beggar) to get to and from the office - it's creepy, especially during the winter when one must walk to and from work in the dark! To add insult to injury - Aetna charges their employees to park in that mess! Recently, Aetna has apparently adopted a sexist, racist, agist philosphy for promotion to upper management positions - those who are over 40'ish, white male, non-ethnic need not apply! I am so sorry to see this happen. I used to believe that senior management truely ascribed to the 'Aetna Way' but I don't any more. ...so sad - I keep hoping that I will see evidence that will change my mind.
