Pros
Aetna does allow for some of it's employees to work at home which means it can be a great place for parents to work. Their training resources are great as is their internal communications. Can we a wonderful place to start out, especially if you are in one of the "schools" such as sales, actuarial, etc. People there do seem to like it and I know many people who have been there for 20+ years. People do buy into the ethics espoused in "the Aetna Way."
Cons
Because of constant reorgs, people are terrified of losing their jobs. Pay raises are minimal, even with significant promotions. In Hartford everyone is recruited from various CT state colleges and there is very little diversity of thought. For people who stay 20+ years there is very little upward movement; even as people change jobs they tend to make lateral moves for tiny salary increases. Bigger salary increases are spent on recruitment from competitors, and loyalty is not rewarded.
