Pros

Flex time/Work at home. Pay was decent - hard to make as much elsewhere. I worked at smaller division of Aetna, so not part of the mainstream corporation. PTO is decent and annual bonus was usually paid to maximum or overfunded at times (except 2 yrs during recession).

Cons

Difficult to find positions in larger corporation once you are acquired as a smaller division within Aetna. Raises are supposed to be merit based, but "pool" for raises is so small that you end up giving the best performers maybe only a 1/2 a percentage more which doesn't add up to much! There is no measurement of workload - only need to get it done and since you are working from home unspoken expectation is that you get used to working at least 10 hr days, usually more during busiest times of yr and many work on wknds so you come into a heavy Monday if you don't do some work on wknds yourself. Very Meeting focused culture -many of them not productive. Difficult to tell who does what due to so many layers./depts. Rest of corporation not interested in smaller division needs so harder to meet customer expectations at times. Company culture is mostly work at home and that suits many people, but others get away with not doing much somehow. Very stressful during busy time of yr - people start getting nasty at times and feels like you can't please anyone. Compliance heavy environment - makes doing anything difficult. It is widely felt that annual employee surveys are a waste of time - mgmt does not really have clear action plans to improve things, but they are good at comparing benefits to other companies and then reducing anything that might be "better" at Aetna! I think company feels working from home should make up for most shortcomings like high workload and medical plans with high deductibles.
