Pros
- Your job is to identify technology solutions to user (customer) gaps - You get to identify how you want to achieve that solution - You are given free rein in accomplishing the task - This is THE one and only entrepreneurial part of the governement or military - The pay system is Lab Demonstration; you get paid on your contribution, not just for showing up
Cons
- You have to compete for funding of your projects (which is technically good), however the criteria is not like in a profit and loss environment, so personalities play a great deal in the decision process. - That being said, great ideas usually get sponsorship and bad ideas get crushed quickly
