Decent for a short-term gig, no path for advancement - Area Manager Air Methods Employee Review

Pros

The company has good 401K matching; they offer a lot of benefits but you do have to pay for them (and they are somewhat expensive). In the role of Area Manager, you will be exposed to several business enterprise platforms (Coupa, Power BI, Adaptive, and UKG are the big ones) to help you complete your work processes.

Cons

A lot of tedious tasks are dumped on Area Managers. The job is all management, no leadership. The Area Manager is focused on keeping bases 'in-service' so the helicopters and crews can complete their mission; however, there are no assets to help drive this KPI due to shortages of resources (shortages of pilots, mechanics, and clinical staff; very few spare aircraft available, hit-or-miss supply system, etc.). The company is also facing stiff headwinds due to the No-surprise Act that Congress passed in early 2022. At the time of writing this, the company is in a hiring freeze and has closed 17 bases in the midwest--I would imagine more contraction in 2023.

Pros

Only pro was the hiring process which consisted of two interviews and then an offer. That should have been the first red flag.

Cons

Private Equity controlled organization. No onboarding process or training provided. You are sent to their HQ for two days of learning how to turn your computer on and how to open a couple of computer applications. They are looking for a zero to hero hire. Be prepared. Tumultuous with lots of turnover. Was told this was a career-long role and in a couple of short months, the CEO was fired, the VP of sales took off. New executive leadership team created an environment of fear and layoffs. Lots of huge egos and very little tolerance for questioning poor business decisions and strategies. No attention given to the voice of the customer and what would strategically help move the needle. It really gives off the odor of a company trying to be sold.
