Pros

After my role was terminated, I took a few months to reflect on my experience at Airtime and what it is I’d like a prospective employee to know. Let me start off by saying that my overall experience at Airtime was positive. I started as an intern and was brought on full time a few months later. This was my first salaried job and I lucked out by having the co-workers I did— compassionate, hard-working people who truly cared about the mission and what they were doing there. My immediate teammates were some of the most creative and qualified people I’ve ever met. The company culture is, most of the time, welcoming and open-minded. Employees are usually recognized for their achievements and encouraged to innovate. Competitive pay, PTO, perks— all great. Plus, the offices are beautiful, that’s just a fact.

Cons

However, for an app whose livelihood depends on Gen Z and their interests, Airtime often lacks the know-how of getting in touch with Gen Z. This fundamental weakness permeates every aspect of the company, most of all, and especially, executive management. Because of this, there can be weeks at a time when disorder and disorganization hang in the air for employees who are asked on short notice to produce one thing or the other, to become available to answer to management’s whims. In addition, the bureaucratic procedures sometimes required to get simple tasks done prove inefficient, and are also often disorganized. Communication between teams can become muddled and deadlines are often missed, ultimately slowing down the progression of Airtime as a product and occluding their own goal of becoming a household name. While some of executive management’s styles can be attributed to the ebb and flow of running tech start-up, it is my personal experience and opinion that at Airtime, there is a lot of talking and not enough listening. All things considered, Airtime is a good place to work. I recommend it.
