Pros
- The company has an interesting product which seems to be making money - Working on engineering problems involving hard technical challenges and scale - Because the company doesn't have very good existing infrastructure, a lot of opportunity to learn/do things yourself, this really helps when looking at exit ops - Despite some language barriers with mainland China, the engineers at the IC level are generally pleasant to work with, smart and friendly - Team dependent but my managers cared about me and tried to create an environment where I could thrive
Cons
- Too little standardisation of infrastructure in engineering so it takes a lot of work to ship at a good pace - Infrastructure/platform teams are understaffed vs product teams. Too much 'unofficial on call' where you are needed despite not being officially on rotation - Very mixed experiences interacting with product management or more senior engineering leaders, and the decisions they make - I don't know how he really is, but most people seem to dislike Jack and/or actively try to avoid him - Very mediocre raises despite good ratings, and seems like there are large pay disparities above junior levels
