Pros

They offer decent insurance benefits at reasonable rates. If you are good at sucking up and being a yes man, you will thrive here. Those are the people they love to promote.

Cons

They do not pay their Epic staff well. CIO made a comment in an all IT staff meeting that people would leave for more money and there wasn't anything he could do about it. That triggered a mass exodus of Epic employees. We lost our best and most experienced analysts because it seemed like leadership didn't care if we left. So we did...and he was right, we made a lot more money at our new jobs.

Akron Children's Response

At Akron Children’s, we do review our compensation in comparison to the market and make adjustments as needed to ensure we are competitive. We recognize that in such a tight labor market, some employees will receive higher wages or promotional opportunities if they move on to other organizations. At the same time, many candidates will receive higher wages and greater job growth opportunities at Akron Children’s than they would at other organizations. We value our employees and always hope they remain with our organization. Yet we understand that at times other employers may have opportunities – including higher pay and job levels – that would make transitioning to another organization beneficial to some of our staff.
